Picture Description:  So according to Tolkien canon, female dwarves weren’t altogether that much different from the males, and other races confused the two genders often… most cited reason being facial hair that dwarves of all ages and genders exhibited across the board. Now if you ask me, simply drawing a bearded lady will get you… a bearded lady. I figured I needed to dig deeper, so I actually modified their body proportions to be more masculine - gave them wider shoulders and narrower hips. My sketches turned out to be a lot more exaggerated than the final product here, mostly because I kept scaling back when painting the daughter, fearing she may look too masculine. I may have to experiment with pushing it more in the future. All that said, I had an idea of painting a dwarf woman, which turned into this - a daughter bringing in a big find from the mines for her mother to inspect. The latter has been a miner herself, obviously, but at some point I suppose had to rear children, and abandon her mining career.
